Janet Malcolm on Gene Stratton-Porter

For a very shrewd deconstruction of our friend Gene, see Janet Malcolm's review published in the New York Review of Books  a few years ago.     For some interesting comments on the "nature study" movement, see this blog post about zoo director Hornaday as well as this biography of one of its leaders, Anna Comstock.  I have no idea if Stratton-Porter named her heroine after Anna, but it's worth a thought.
